eyalrozHello channel peops,00:13
masonmdt: The only thing I depend on that links libelogind0 at present (at least for the server where I was testing this) was OpenSSH, and that, coming from OpenBSD, clearly doesn't require it itself, so can be forked.00:14
eyalrozquick question: Installing chimaera: Should I use the new alpha netinst image, or should I install beowulf, edit the APT sources and dist-upgrade?00:14
masonAs for elogind, as fsmithred says, it's pretty easy to avoid.00:14
golinuxeyalroz: Feedback on the alphas would be appreciated but either method works00:17
eyalrozgolinux: Is there reason to believe they would be flakey?00:18
eyalrozs/they/the alpha iso's/00:18
golinuxNo.00:20
golinuxJust want to make sure nothing is missing  etc.00:20
eyalrozgolinux: Ok, then I'll try the alpha then00:22
eyalrozI'm not in the mood for bug-filing though, I filed 20, yes 20, bugs against LO Impress over the past 4 days.00:23
Xenguyyou guys are dope, keep it up03:09
omendo i set time/locale settings just like in debian? I think my settings are scuffed07:48
omentmux shows me wrong time and xfce clock just straight up crashes07:49
masonomen: dpkg-reconfigure tzdata07:50
omenmissing a space?07:50
masonomen: Are you?07:51
masonomen: If so, do it like what I typed.07:51
omenI mean I have no package called dpkg-reconfigure07:51
omenoh I just needed root07:51
masonomen: FWIW, you can also do it the traditional way and link /etc/localtime appropriately.07:53
omenuh i think i need to set UTC time and not local in my BIOS07:53
masonGenerally, yeah, unless you're dual-booting Windows.07:53
omenty mason, brb07:53
masonAlso, dpkg-reconfigure locales07:53
omenworks perfect now. Had to remove and add the xfce clock again to fix that also08:06
masongood good08:08
masonAlright, hitting the sack. G'night.08:08
ShorTiewhat package is xtables_legacy_multi-xshared.o and xtables_nft_multi-xshared.o in ??20:00
rwpShorTie, It's a .o file so it would not normally be in any package.  It would be a temporary build object resulting from local compilation.20:20
rwpShorTie, I would suspect it would be in available from build dependencies of the iptables package.20:21
ShorTiehmmm, ok21:15
ShorTieThankz21:15
ShorTieiptables is the 1 that maker them,  like /root/swe/debs-sources/iptables-1.8.7/iptables/xtables_nft_multi-xshared.o21:17
ShorTies/maker/makes21:18
chomwitti did a fresh install of Beowulf in a cloud server. i selected runit as service manager. How do i restart sshd ?21:52
rwpchomwitt, AFAIK the runit services use the "sv" program.  So (I think) "sv restart foo" would do it.  But caution on my advice since I am only somewhat familiar with runit.21:57
chomwittok , thanks rwp . i'll try it21:58
rwpchomwitt, Here is a good reference for all things runit related: http://smarden.org/runit/22:01
plasma41chomwitt: see also /usr/share/doc/runit/html/index.html22:01
chomwitti've looked at files in package openssh-server and not seen any related service dirs with files like run ..22:17
chomwittplasma41, ok but its a vps controlled with a terminal22:18
chomwittplasma41, so i need a text based browser first!22:19
chomwitti wonder what is the usual way to control a devuan vps , a terminal with tmux or with remote desktop utility?22:22
plasma41chomwitt: lynx is my text-based browser of choice.22:26
plasma41chomwitt: run `dpkg -L runit | grep man8` on the system running runit for a list of all the manpages.22:29
plasma41chomwitt: I you'll find your service directories by running `dpkg -L openssh-server`.22:32
chomwittyep lynx!!22:33
plasma41chomwitt: s/I you'll/I think you'll/22:33
* sadsnork just ssh'es to his Devuan VPS's22:33
sadsnorkIs that wrong?22:33
plasma41sadsnork: If it works, no.22:35
chomwittplasma41, ``dpkg -L openssh-server' gives /etc/init.d/ssh and systemd stuff only22:37
plasma41chomwitt: does it list any files under /etc/sv/ ?22:38
chomwittno22:38
chomwitthttps://pkginfo.devuan.org/cgi-bin/package-query.html?c=package&q=openssh-server=1:7.9p1-10+deb10u222:40
chomwittaha!!!22:40
chomwittchimaera22:41
plasma41chomwitt: Yes, looking at the right version is indeed important.22:42
plasma41chomwitt: `dpkg --status openssh-server | grep Version` to see the currently installed version22:43
chomwitt1:7.9p1-10+deb10u222:44
chomwittso what are my options.. i guess runit emulates sysvinit22:45
chomwittdo i try Chimaera?22:46
chomwittis it like testing in debian ?22:46
sgageyes, just like testing in debian. Been working great for me for months.22:48
plasma41chomwitt: you can either switch to Chimaera or try installing the chimaera version of openssh-server or download the chimaera openssh package and compile the package locally.22:51
chomwittso it seems runit is a work in progress i guess22:51
chomwitti prefer to switch to chimaera.22:52
* chomwitt is happy that devuan has an online pkginfo.devuan.org service.. cool22:54
plasma41chomwitt: pkginfo.devuan.org is indeed really neat.22:55
plasma41^Hear that, rrq?22:55
chomwittshould i do a fresh install or upgrade from Beowulf to Chimaera ?22:58
fsmithred  runit discussion: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=371622:59
plasma41chomwitt: A fresh install is likely to give you the least trouble. I'm not currently aware of any issues in the Beowulf-to-Chimaera upgrade path, but I also haven't tried it myself yet.23:00
sgageI've done said update several times with no problems.23:01
chomwittfsmithred, thanks.23:03
chomwittok. see you. i'll try fresh since is already a fresh install. i asked upcloud to create a devuan cdrom iso to speed things up23:04
chomwittbut i think i should tell them to include chimeara too23:05
chomwittnot sure if they care thougth23:05
plasma41chomwitt: I'm currently running a Beowulf/Chimaera hybrid system, but it's a totally unsupported setup. I only do it because I'm confident enough in my understanding of the inner workings of Devuan to be about to troubleshoot and fix it when it breaks.23:12
plasma41chomwitt: and it has indeed broken at times so I have had to figure out why and fix it23:12
