rktaI migrated another laptop to devuan, but this one refuses to play sound on my tv connected to hdmi. I'm able to get sound with speaker test. On my other machines I use pulsemixer to move programs to different outputs, need that for a bluetooth headset. But now, I don't see the output in pulsemixer. If I connect the headset I get sound, but it isn't shown in pulsemixer either. How can I debug this?08:48
rktaOk, after following random advices from the internet, reinstalling and other stuff, I got it to work from one specific terminal. I have no idea why, just hope it will not break again :)09:36
rktaAfter 20 years, sound under linux still sucks.09:36
Hunter[m]Oh yeah, I forgot, speaking of pipewire I think the pipewire-pulse package uses systemd commands to replace pulseaudio so it doesnt work on Devuan. I tried installing it last night and it didnt work.15:45
GyrosGeier[urge to write a "libaudio" that just wraps all the other systems intensifies]16:06
FatPhilYikes, it looks like one of my machines is Debian 9.13, what's the stablest devuan I can upgrade it to with the least chance of breakage?16:40
FatPhilI honestly thought I'd converted everything to devuan, this one must have slipped through.16:40
brocashelmis that stretch? try ascii or beowulf (buster)16:46
brocashelmhttps://devuan.org/os/releases16:49
FatPhilcurrently working my way through this: https://forum.khadas.com/t/how-to-convert-debian-or-ubuntu-to-devuan-vim3-and-perhaps-others/866216:51
FatPhilchosen ASCII, as that seems the smallest change.16:52
FatPhilIf I want to boot a ubuntu live-USB from within my devuan, is there any way simpler than virtualbox, which i have vague memories of getting to work 5 years ago.17:22
astrolulhello19:01
SuccessusHello, do you have a question about Devuan?19:01
astrolulyes so basically i cannot find where devuan stores services and i want to enable libvirtd on runit but all the folders i have been told only have getty in them19:03
SuccessusSomeone that knows will respond, wait a bit19:09
HydragyrumGyrosGeier: https://xkcd.com/92719:18
fsmithredastrolul, here's more information on runit run scripts. https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=371619:30
fsmithredand actual scripts you can use, too.19:30
astrolulso i cant just enable them like in void?19:39
astrolulim confused19:40
fsmithredastrolul, no, there are no run scripts to enable. You have to add them. There are a couple of good sources for scripts, and they are linked in that thread.19:53
astroluli dont see the point in having a runit iso then if u have to manually get scripts there should probably be a warning19:53
fsmithredIf you want an example to play with, I made a live-iso that has some services converted to runit.. Updated it yesterday.19:53
fsmithredit's in a directory named "experimental" so I think that's warning enough.19:54
fsmithredhttps://get.refracta.org/files/experimental/refracta_runit_test_amd64-20211119_0046.iso19:54
fsmithredThe point is to get people using runit and contributing more run scripts. Ultimate goal is to maintain diversity in the ecosystem.19:58
astrolulfsmithred do u know if openrc devuan has scripts preinstalled?19:58
astroluli dont like messing around with custom scripts and having to maintain them and stuff19:59
astrolulguys i have a weird issue22:12
astrolulso basically when i boot the devuan iso and go through the steps then connect to wifi22:12
astrolulit defaults to wep and doesnt let me choose like it usually does22:12
gnarfaceastrolul: which ISO?22:23
gnarfaceastrolul: sounds like a firmware issue, but the isos should contain the non-free wifi firmware unless you have very new hardware22:23
astrolulthe netinstall22:24
astrolulits the same one i used before22:24
astrolulit always worked but now it wont when i try to reinstall its very weird22:24
astrolulits a thinkpad x230 anyway22:25
gnarfaceastrolul: weird... anything in dmesg about it?22:30
astrolulgnarface i havent checked yet but i think im just gonna use ethernet for the reinstall then connect to wifi manually once its installed22:36
gnarfaceastrolul: that usually works better but it should have worked if it worked before... unless there was either hardware failure or some other unknown variable22:37
gnarfaceastrolul: i would have tried a cold boot just in case22:47
astrolulgnarface thing is i have restarted like multiple times into the iso22:57
astrolulits weird but i can confirm it was working before and it would let me choose between wep and wpa22:57
gnarfaceastrolul: sometimes a cold-boot is necessary because with certain hardware it's occasionally possible for a driver crash to crash the device so hard it stays locked-up through a warm reboot23:01
astrolulif by cold boot u mean fully shutdown then start up again then i have done that23:03
astroluli have another idea before i try ethernet tho23:03
astrolulimma jst disconnect the battery n then reattach and boot23:03
onefangAn even colder boot.23:06
