smpl | rustyaxe; I use apt-cacher-ng. | 01:10 |
---|---|---|
rustyaxe | will check it out. I have a crappy netgear NAS that isnt worth much fuss, running debian jessie lol. it'd make a suitable machine with a small SSD for this kinda thing tho while being fairly power friendly | 01:18 |
ravehaver9000 | i just updated my unstable system and got the following error | 01:50 |
ravehaver9000 | "syntax error unexpected error expecting CCHAR or UNUMBER or AS" | 01:51 |
ravehaver9000 | this happens immediately after i boot my system up in grub, but it otherwise goes normally | 01:51 |
ravehaver9000 | is there a fix for this error? | 01:51 |
rustyaxe | sounds like your grub config is a little bit munged up | 01:53 |
rustyaxe | any idea where the error comes? is it in grub or kernel? | 01:53 |
ravehaver9000 | probably grub since i get it as soon as i load up devuan | 01:54 |
ravehaver9000 | but before the time you get asked for the encryption passwordr | 01:54 |
ravehaver9000 | it might or might not have to do with dbus too since one program that requires it to work broke as well and i had to adjust a setting to make it work. only a small setting but still | 01:55 |
rustyaxe | if its grub config, a 'update-grub' might well sort it | 01:55 |
ravehaver9000 | yay! | 01:57 |
ravehaver9000 | now let me see if this solves the problem | 01:57 |
ravehaver9000 | i backed up my home directory in case it breaks | 01:57 |
rustyaxe | well | 01:57 |
rustyaxe | A usb boot stick is handy to have on hand and can let you fix small problems later :) well worth keeping about | 01:58 |
rustyaxe | In fact just a few days ago mine saved me a lot of strife | 01:58 |
ravehaver9000 | yeah i also have one with a live install of devuan around too | 01:58 |
ravehaver9000 | okay, just restarted, but the error is still there | 02:03 |
ravehaver9000 | deespite upgrading grub. this probably means its kernel level | 02:03 |
ravehaver9000 | what should i then do then | 02:06 |
ravehaver9000 | check dbus settings? | 02:07 |
rustyaxe | Not sure ;( Stick around and someone else might be of more help | 02:07 |
ravehaver9000 | thanks | 02:11 |
ravehaver9000 | i cant really fix kernel problems though | 02:11 |
gnarface | ravehaver9000: do you have "quiet" in your kernel command-line options? if it's coming from grub it should be before the line that says it's loading the kernel or initrd.img, but i'm not sure you can see it with the default kernel command-line options. | 03:12 |
gnarface | if it's coming from the kernel it should also still show up in the output of dmesg soon after boot | 03:13 |
gnarface | since you're on unstable there's no guarantee it's generating or parsing the grub config correctly | 03:13 |
ravehaver9000 | im back | 04:53 |
ravehaver9000 | just looked onto my grub cfg, quiet was indeeed in the command line options | 04:57 |
ravehaver9000 | got rid of it | 04:58 |
ravehaver9000 | anways gotta sleep so seeya later | 04:58 |
Digit | has devuan repo moved? "Temporary failure resolving 'deb.devuan.org' all over my attempts to upgrade. or have i mistyped a reconfiguration? | 12:48 |
onefang | Probably just DNS issues near you. | 12:52 |
onefang | deb.devuan.org is a DNS round robin that points to most of our package mirrors. | 12:53 |
xisop | Digit: would you want one of use to give you the IP of the repo so you could temporarily put it as an entry in your /etc/hosts file perhaps? | 21:45 |
rwp | I am randomly seeing DNS failures resolving deb.devuan.org too. If I retry a few times until it works then it works. | 22:01 |
Xenguy | rwp, I am seeing errors when trying 'git fetch' also; not sure whether that might be related | 22:04 |
rwp | Yes. Digit complained above and it looks like some DNS problems are active today. | 22:08 |
bb|hcb | rwp: Can you try this: for i in ns{2..6}.devuan.dev; do nslookup deb.devuan.org $i; done | 22:26 |
bb|hcb | ... and tell which one is failing? | 22:26 |
xisop | it looks like gitea.devuan.dev is slow, but it might not be related. | 22:32 |
xisop | not sure if maybe the jenkins jobs that were pushed recently effected the load times of gitea | 22:33 |
xisop | This is what gitea.devuan.org resolves to for me: https://bpa.st/EQ3UE | 22:34 |
xisop | yeah, it's taking several minutes. still no response | 22:35 |
bb|hcb | rrq have mentioned about a bunch of bots crawling gitea recently... | 22:37 |
xisop | bb|hcb: this is my output when running your for loop: https://bpa.st/O4YRM | 22:37 |
xisop | gitea times out for me | 22:38 |
bb|hcb | Can;t be jenkins - they even do not share the physical host; and builders are separate from both | 22:39 |
bb|hcb | https://bpa.st/O4YRM - this looks OK | 22:39 |
xisop | nice, yeah that's a good strategy | 22:39 |
xisop | i ran the same command for gitea.devuan.org if you think that'll help to paste | 22:40 |
bb|hcb | Only if there are errors | 22:41 |
xisop | gitea.devuan.org seems to consistently resolve to 54.36.142.180 | 22:41 |
xisop | all 5 nameservers report the same ip | 22:41 |
xisop | mtr --tcp --port 443 gitea.devuan.org # doesn't have any output | 22:50 |
xisop | still seems to be down | 23:15 |
