ra331Hi guys!! Here's a question11:51
ra331Have a need to install whatsapp, but need systemd to install snapd, but since it is missing from devuan, what are the options to install whatsapp desktop as whatsDesk app.11:51
ra331Flatpack also depends on systemd?11:51
ra331Please suggest the best option considering open sourse.11:51
ra331I have deadalus 5.11:51
sixwheeledbeastthere is no official whatsapp support for linux. I am sure there would be one of the third party options available without snap or flatpak.12:20
ra331what are the options without snap and flatpak?13:11
sixwheeledbeastIf open source projects will usually have a git, possibly it's got a .deb pacakged. Or try other projects. if you use pidgin that has a plugin from what I recall.13:14
al1r4d¯\_ (ツ) _/¯  you can use whatsapp web buddy ra33113:17
al1r4dYou dont need *insert electron wa web app*13:17
al1r4dalso, flatpak doesnt depends on systemd13:17
sixwheeledbeastseem whatsdesk is python so maybe pip13:18
sixwheeledbeastseems13:18
ra331I don't use Whatsapp often, but here I need to contact someone via video call on a big screen, so I was considering jitsi.13:27
ra331I think whatsapp is the easiest to use.13:27
ra331I will try installing Whatsdesk, thanks for the tips.13:27
onefangJitsi works fine, we use it for the regular Devuan meetings.13:28
ra331ok13:30
ra331is there a contact or number to check, my system says the camera is busy with another app, but the diode is only lit on the jitsi site.13:37
cousin_luigihttp://paste.debian.net/hidden/e884cb53/ this happens every few days. The network goes down and I have to reboot.17:44
cousin_luigiCould it be a driver problem? Same card did work properly on a different machine.17:44
cousin_luigiPerhaps I could try without firmware.17:49
cousin_luigiIt still works...17:54
gnarfacecousin_luigi: hard to say, but i've seen that soft lockup thing caused by a buggy bios feature for power management before called "c1e" powersaving, i think19:07
gnarfacethe network going down might just be a side effect of that cpu soft lockup19:08
gnarfacekernel could affect it, load could affect it (it only happened under relatively high disk i/o for me) but i'd check for that bios setting too19:09
cousin_luigignarface: hmm, I have indeed changed the powersaving thing19:23
cousin_luigichanging the governor to powersave, that is. If that's the case, perhaps I should just set that one back. Will find out in about a week.19:24
cousin_luigignarface: Bios does have some setting about powersaving, unsure if linux can use it though.19:25
gnarfaceit was only that one bios feature "c1e powersaving" that was causing it in my case, and it wasn't contributing more than a couple watts worth of power saving, so i was fine with disabling it19:25
gnarfacethe other bios power saving settings and the various kernel cpu frequency drivers all were fine after disabling c1e19:26
gnarfacei've heard some vague stuff about intel_pstate preempting the traditional cpufreq stuff and causing problems too though, not sure if it causes this type of trouble, but also worth checking perhaps19:27
nemognarface: maybe if more of dmesg was posted could see if there was any power management stuff before the lockup20:17
cousin_luigignarface: It's amd anyway.20:53
cousin_luiginemo: Nothing of the sort from what I can tell. All daemon logs about cron and dnsmasq.20:55
nemoI've had intermittent, with this CPU, errors of the form:21:41
nemo kernel:[456360.602728] [Hardware Error]: CPU:1 (19:21:2) MC19_STATUS[Over|-|-|AddrV|PCC|-|UECC|Deferred|-|-]: 0xc748b2eb0011ffa421:41
nemothey happen like once every month or two.  Most recent on Dec 6th.  No soft lockup, but I do wonder if that depends on what the kernel detects or the CPU supports21:42
nemoI also did have problems in past with badram21:42
nemohmmm.21:42
nemocousin_luigi: have you run memtest yet?21:42
cousin_luiginemo: hmm, no. I suppose I will have to.21:49
cousin_luigiI think I have a memtest intergrated in the bios, but the machine is now headless and I'd rather not wire up things if I can avoid it.21:50
cousin_luigiCan memtest work over the serial when invoked from grub?21:50
cousin_luigimemtest86+ that is21:51
cousin_luigiYes, it can. Will try it tomorrow and report back.21:55
